Breast augmentations are commonly performed using one of two possible methods: fat transfer or the insertion of breast implants. At Aesthetic Plastic Surgery of North Shore, breast implants are administered by board-certified cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon Dr. Anoush Hadaegh to help patients achieve an enhanced feminine figure.
Types of Breast Implants
Not all breast implants are the same; they vary significantly in terms of content, texture, shape, and size depending on the volume, fullness, and projection desired by the patient. At our practice, we use implants manufactured by Mentor® and Natrelle®.
Mentor® Implants
Mentor® implants come in the following variations:
- Round Saline – This implant has a firmer feel and multiple profile options.
- Spectrum™ Adjustable Saline – This variation on Round Saline implants features a removable fill tube that gives you size flexibility after surgery.
- MemoryGel® – Silicone implants, like the MemoryGel®, tend to feel more natural.
- MemoryGel® Xtra – Maintain that texture but with more profile choices.
- CPG™ – Enjoy the benefits of silicone but with a teardrop shape.
- Breast Tissue Expanders – Expanders are not implants themselves; instead, they are used to create the space necessary to add implants later on, making them crucial for breast reconstruction patients.
Natrelle® Implants
Natrelle® offers even further customization with their Inspira® “gummy” silicone implants, which are so named because they hold their shape like gummy bear candy. Responsive implants are the softest, followed by SoftTouch being slightly “gummier,” and Cohesive as the firmest.
Additionally, Natrelle® implants can be further customized in terms of projection:
- Low
- Low Plus
- Moderate
- Full
- Extra Full
Your Breast Implant Consultation
To determine which breast implant characteristics are a good match for your body, you’ll first need to come in for a consultation with Dr. Hadaegh. Besides evaluating your medical history and examining your breasts, he will also take your aesthetic goals into account.
Which texture would you prefer? What shape and size are you looking for? Is this a breast augmentation or reconstruction? Are we combining your treatment with a lift or other procedure? All of these factors must be considered when planning your breast augmentation. We’ll use the Mentor® sizing system during your consultation so you can get a better sense of your potential results.

How Are The Implants Placed In the Breast?
The exact details of your breast augmentation will depend on the type, size, and shape of your particular implants. Saline implants are typically inserted empty via a small incision and then filled with salt water to your desired appearance. Silicone implants can require a slightly larger incision, which is made in a secluded location.
Dr. Hadaegh will use either a submuscular implant placement (below the pectoral muscle) or subglandular placement (above the muscle but below the glands). Submuscular is typically used for a more natural appearance, while subglandular is ideal for less movement during exercise. Further differences between these two locations will be discussed in more detail during your consultation.
