Breast Lift With Implants

A breast lift with implants, or augmentation mastopexy, is the combination of two aesthetic procedures: the breast lift and the breast augmentation. This complex treatment is designed for women who want to reduce sagging in the breasts while simultaneously increasing their size. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Anoush Hadaegh at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery of North Shore performs breast lifts with implants for those who qualify.

Am I a Good Candidate?

A breast lift with implants is appropriate for patients who want to improve the appearance of their breasts. Healthy patients with realistic goals are ideal candidates. Dr. Hadaegh will determine if you are a good candidate during your consultation. This will be based on your goals, overall health, medical history, and a thorough physical examination. Good candidates are typically those who are not pregnant or nursing and have no active infections or serious health conditions. You may not be a good candidate if you have active breast cancer or unrealistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure.

Your Breast Lift with Implants Consultation

To determine which breast characteristics are a good match for your body, you’ll first need to come in for a consultation with Dr. Hadaegh. The consultation is a perfect format for you to get answers to all of your questions so that you can make informed choices. Besides evaluating your medical history and examining your breasts, he will also take your aesthetic goals into account.

How to prepare for surgery

To prepare for breast lift with implants surgery, you need to have a consultation with Dr. Hadaegh.  During your consultation with Dr. Hadaegh, he will ask you about your medical history and any other surgeries or procedures you may have had. It is important to tell him about any medications you take as well. This includes NSAIDs like aspirin and ibuprofen, and any other blood-thinning medications, as these can increase the risk of bleeding.  In the days leading up to your breast surgery, Dr. Hadaegh may ask you to stop consuming certain medications, along with tobacco and alcohol. Follow his advice carefully to ensure your safety and set yourself up for a smooth recovery.

Before your surgery, you should arrange for family, a friend, or another trusted individual to transport you to and from the hospital.

The Procedure

The operation is usually performed under general anesthesia to make sure you’re comfortable. The exact locations of the incisions are patient-specific. Still, Dr. Hadaegh takes great care to ensure that your scars are minimal and in secluded places, like around the areola and/or along the breast crease.

He can then remove any unwanted skin and readjust the internal breast tissue, usually inserting the implants through these same incisions. If necessary, the nipples and areolas are moved.

An augmentation mastopexy can be utilized to help women achieve a more youthful, feminine self-image in the following ways:

  • Eliminating excess skin that is causing sagging
  • Reorienting the nipples and areolas from facing downward to a “perkier” look
  • Decreasing the size of the areolas and/or nipples
  • Increasing the size and fullness of the breasts using silicone or saline implants

These symptoms frequently occur due to aging, significant weight loss, or pregnancy. They can affect both breasts equally or one more than the other.

Where will my surgery take place?

Breast Lift with Implants surgery is performed at either Beverly Hospital, North Shore Medical Center, Salem or New England Surgicenter under general anesthesia. The operation, itself, takes approximately 2-2.5 hours depending on your specific treatment plan. For a treatment plan involving a combination of cosmetic procedures, the duration will be longer. After the breast lift surgery, the patient’s condition will be monitored until they are cleared to return home. We make sure to provide a comfortable environment for the patients until they can be safely released.

What is the recovery time for breast lift with implants surgery?

You could be sore with some swelling after surgery. Discomfort should begin subsiding after a few days, and swelling will gradually diminish over 4-6 weeks. Most patients return to work, driving, and normal basic daily activities within 7-10 days after surgery. Exercise and heavy lifting are restricted for about 4 weeks after your breast lift. If you decide to combine a breast lift with a breast augmentation, your recovery may be slightly longer. It is necessary to follow the post-surgery instructions provided by our surgeon for a comfortable and smooth recovery. Patients can set up an appointment at any point during the recovery period if they have any concerns.

K
L

Will my breast size change from breast lift surgery?

No. Breast lift surgery removes excess skin but does not remove significant breast tissue in any way. If you would like to increase the size of your breasts, you can discuss combining a breast lift with a breast augmentation. This discussion would take place with Dr. Hadaegh during your consultation appointment.

Can I combine my breast Lift with a breast reduction instead?

A breast lift on its own will not decrease the overall size of the breasts; it will just reposition them. Rather than adding implants, some women might actually want a reduction in size. This is especially true when the weight of a patient’s breasts is causing back pain and mobility problems. Using a breast lift with reduction, Dr. Hadaegh reshapes and reorients the breasts, as well as removes breast tissue for a smaller volume.
