Am I a Good Candidate?

A breast lift is appropriate for patients who want to improve the appearance of their breasts. Healthy patients with realistic goals are ideal candidates. Dr. Hadaegh will determine if you are a good candidate during your consultation. This will be based on your goals, overall health, medical history, and a thorough physical examination. Good candidates are typically those who are not pregnant or nursing and have no active infections or serious health conditions. You may not be a good candidate if you have active breast cancer or unrealistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure.

Your breast lift consultation

To determine which breast characteristics are a good match for your body, you’ll first need to come in for a consultation with Dr. Hadaegh. Besides evaluating your medical history and examining your breasts, he will also take your aesthetic goals into account.

How to Prepare for Breast Lift Surgery

To prepare for your surgery, you need to have a consultation with Dr. Hadaegh.  During your consultation he will ask you about your medical history and any other surgeries or procedures you may have had. It is important to tell him about any medications you take as well. This includes NSAIDs like aspirin and ibuprofen, and any other blood-thinning medications, as these can increase the risk of bleeding.  In the days leading up to your breast lift surgery, Dr. Hadaegh may ask you to stop consuming certain medications, along with tobacco and alcohol. Follow his advice carefully to ensure your safety and set yourself up for a smooth recovery. Before your breast lift, you should arrange for family, a friend, or another trusted individual to transport you to and from the hospital.

The Procedure

A breast lift/mastopexy restores the youthful appearance of sagging breasts. While it does not increase the breast size, a breast lift does reshape and reposition the breast by tightening the existing tissue. In addition, a breast lift will reposition the nipple in a more aesthetically pleasing location; reclaiming some of what gravity and/or pregnancy has altered.

A breast lift surgery can be performed in a variety of ways, but the procedure generally follows this process:

  1. You will be given general anesthesia for your comfort. You will be fully unconscious during the entire breast lift procedure.
  2. Once the anesthesia has taken full effect, Dr. Hadaegh will make the necessary incisions to address your cosmetic concerns according to your customized breast lift treatment plan.
  3. Dr. Hadaegh will lift and reshape the breasts to achieve your treatment goals.
  4. He will position the areolas to best complement your new breast shape.
  5. Incisions are closed with sutures, completing the procedure.

A breast lift may be coupled with a breast augmentation or fat grafting if greater volume is a part of your goal. Some women choose to have other procedures in combination with their breast lift. Common procedures to combine with a breast lift include breast augmentation, liposuction, and abdominoplasty. The cosmetic procedures combined with the patient’s breast lift will be based on their goals. The most suitable combination of breast cosmetic procedures will be chosen during a consultation.

What is the recovery time for a breast lift?

After surgery, bandages will be placed over the incisions made during your procedure. You may experience minor side effects such as soreness and swelling. You may also experience temporary bruising after your breast lift. Dr. Hadaegh may prescribe medication to help you minimize discomfort as you heal. It is important to adhere to Dr. Hadaegh’s instructions throughout your recovery in order to ensure proper healing and minimize the chance of complications. He will make personalized recommendations regarding the use of a surgical bra or other supportive device during your recovery. He will also advise you on how much time you need to take off work and when you can safely resume your normal activities. Typically, patients can return to work in one to two weeks. Patients should limit exercise for two to six weeks after their procedure. Patients will need to attend a follow-up appointment so that Dr. Hadaegh can ensure quality results and check on the healing process. If you have any questions about the recovery process, do not hesitate to ask Dr. Hadaegh. You will be able to see results right away; however, the final results from your breast lift will not be apparent for several months.
