Gynecomastia & Male Breast Reduction
Large male breasts can be a significant cause of social stress and embarrassment for a man. Unfortunately diet and exercise cannot resolve overly developed breasts in men. There are multiple surgical options for Male Breast Reduction on North Shore, from liposuction to full breast reduction, which can flatten the chest and decrease the size of the areola.
A male breast reduction makes the chest area look firmer and more toned, resolving the appearance of male breasts. It can also reduce oversized areolae to make them better fit the new dimensions of the chest.

“I can not say enough great things about how awesome your office is. The girls are beautiful and made me feel comfortable being there, even when 4-months ago, I started feeling very uncomfortable about my body. Since the operation, I truly feel great about my body and am so much happier when I take my shirt off. You, doctor Hadaegh, are an awesome doctor and person and I am beyond satisfied with what you have done. Thank you so much and wish you luck for the future. I will certainly tell people about you and your office.”
Am I a Good Candidate?
A male breast reduction is appropriate for patients who want to reduce the size of their chest. Healthy patients with realistic goals are ideal candidates. Dr. Hadaegh will determine if you are a good candidate during your consultation. This will be based on your goals, overall health, medical history, and a thorough physical examination. Good candidates are typically those who have no active infections or serious health conditions. You may not be a good candidate if you have active breast cancer or unrealistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure.
Your Male Breast Reduction Consultation
During your breast reduction consultation, Dr. Hadaegh will answer any of your questions, discuss your goals and concerns, and will present all of your treatment options. Your eligibility for a male breast reduction procedure will be based on your goals, overall health, medical history, and a thorough physical examination. This examination will also ensure that Dr. Hadaegh can best customize your treatment plan. A comprehensive review of your medical history will be done to ensure a clear understanding of any potential contraindications or health considerations related to the procedure
How to Prepare for Male Breast Reduction Surgery
During your male breast reduction consultation with Dr. Hadaegh, he will ask you about your medical history and any other surgeries or procedures you may have had. It is important to tell him about any medications you take as well. This includes NSAIDs like aspirin and ibuprofen, and any other blood-thinning medications, as these can increase the risk of bleeding. In the days leading up to your surgery, Dr. Hadaegh may ask you to stop consuming certain medications, along with tobacco and alcohol. Follow his advice carefully to ensure your safety and set yourself up for a smooth recovery.
Before your surgery, you should arrange for family, a friend, or another trusted individual to transport you to and from the hospital.
The Procedure
A male breast reduction is a surgical procedure that involves removing excess skin, fat, and glandular breast tissue to resolve gynecomastia. Gynecomastia can develop due to a number of factors, including obesity, genetics, hormone fluctuations, recreational drug use, medical conditions, and medications.
Male breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia at Beverly Hospital or North Shore Medical Center, Salem. Dr. Hadaegh will make the necessary incisions on each breast following one of these two patterns:
- Lollipop – An incision is created within the perimeter of the areola, along with a vertical line from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease.
- Keyhole/Anchor – This pattern uses the same technique as the lollipop, but also adds an incision horizontally along the breast crease.
These incision strategies minimize the amount of visible scarring after surgery by placing them in mainly secluded locations. Next, Dr. Hadaegh will remove excess breast tissue, fat, and skin while reshaping the remaining tissue. If needed, he may also reposition the areolae and nipple. Once these tasks are complete, the incisions are closed. The operation takes approximately two to three hours, depending on your specific treatment plan.
