Just hearing someone mention a chemical peel sounds scary to a lot of people. I get it. You’ve heard a horror story on the internet of a crazy peel gone wrong, or maybe you just think, “I don’t have time for down time”, or “why would anyone do that to themselves?” Well I’m here to give you the full scoop on chemical peels….. even the parts that (temporarily) aren’t so pretty.

Why do we use chemical peels? They serve as a resurfacing agent for your skin. The dry, freckled, damaged skin of summers past, doesn’t need to stick around. Aiding the skin in shedding its’ top layers helps to reveal fresher, brighter, more even skin. Acne scarring can also be lessened by the chemical peel process as can melasma, uneven texture, and fine lines. We all know that not all skin is the same, right? Well not all chemical peels are the same either. The great thing about a peel is that we can choose one that addresses your skin concerns AND fits your lifestyle. I like to classify our peels in this way: progressive, light, and mid depth. It’s important to understand, when talking about chemical peels, that depending upon your skin concerns, and the peel selected, more than one treatment may be needed to fully achieve your goals.

So what are the options? We have products to be used for at home “peeling” that impact the outermost surface of your skin and create a sloughing off or turnover of skin cells that helpsto reveal a brighter rejuvenated complexion. These are done at your convenience and don’t involve any true down time. We even offer one with nearly invisible exfoliation! We also have light in office peels that work a bit deeper in the skin and help to turnover those tired and dead cells to reveal a more youthful complexion in a bit less time. A light peel does not have down time associated with it and when done in a series of three or more can provide really nice rejuvenation. Mid depth peels, which are also done in office, reach even deeper into the skin (the upper dermis for those interested), and can have a significant impact on melasma, sun damage, uneven texture, large pores, dullness, fine lines, acne scarring, and overall skin tone. Our mid depth peel can substantially improve skin health and gives significant results. As you may imagine, to provide the outcome that a mid depth peel does, there is a little down time. How much? Peeling typically begins 2-3 days after the treatment is done (so you’ve got a couple of days right after treatment without visible peeling). Significant peeling can last about 3 to 4 days and then becomes much less significant as the healing completes.

So is it worth it? Yes! And with so many options, we can help you find just the right peel for you, your lifestyle, and your needs. Chemical peels were actually among the top five most sought after aesthetic (non-surgical) treatments in 2015. In the U.S. more than 600,000 treatments were performed last year and the numbers are sure to be higher for 2017 because chemical peels can help to transform your skin!
