I hear over and over from people (especially women over 35) the same things. โI donโt have time to use a bunch of productsโ, or โnothing makes a difference with my skinโ, or even better, โI just splash water at my face and it looks great!โ So, weโre all friends here, right?!? Good! Any friend of mine knows that I tend to be direct. Why sugar coat it? So hereโs the deal. You do have the time, it will make a difference, and just splashing water at your face is not exactly turning back the hands of timeโฆ..no offense. Healthy, properly functioning skin is not only important to our overall health, but letโs be honest, it makes us look better; healthier, younger, and more vibrant. I know there are plenty of people out there thinking that anyone seeking lotions, potions, and treatments from an Aesthetician is just vain and self-absorbed. To that I ask, whatโs wrong with a healthy amount of vanity? When did vanity become the root of evil? Shouldnโt we take pride in our appearance? Shouldnโt we try to make corrections, when possible, where we unknowingly damaged ourselves in the past? Donโt we want healthy, properly functioning skin? Donโt we want to glow and feel good when we catch a glimpse of ourselves in a mirror? Doesnโt everyone, no matter their age, want to look even halfway decent in a selfie without a filter? I AM a little vain. I know that I am, but I think itโs healthy actually. You know why? Because I want to live MY fabulous over 40 life unfiltered.
Believe me when I tell you, Iโm not seeking perfection in myself. Gone are my boot camp days, today I use my Pilates machine. Iโm not looking to be G.I. Janeโฆโฆjust healthy and reasonably sane. Gone are the days of not even eating cake on my birthday, because frosting is seriously good. When it comes to my face, however, I just canโt find a good reason to look older than I need to. I realize that Iโm not going to wake up one day with my 25 year old face, but why look older than I am? Someone recently told me that I have beautiful skin. You know what I responded? โItโs a labor of loveโ. I choose to take care of my skin because I choose to take care of myself. To make myself a priority. I am worth 5 extra minutes twice a dayโฆ..arenโt you? Iโm worth regular maintenance and occasional treatments that help me to feel good and look good. Arenโt you?
Not every product is for everyone and not every treatment is for everyone. You are an individual. An individual who needs to take action to look and feel their best. Drink plenty of water, eat right (but donโt forget a little cake now and then!), exercise, and take care of your skin. Itโs the only skin youโve got.
