At Aesthetic Plastic Surgery North Shore, an eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is one of the most common facial surgical procedures. Since the skin around the eyes is very thin, it’s one of the first areas of the face to show visible signs of aging. The loss of elasticity can create wrinkles and puffiness that can make you appear tired. Dr. Anoush Hadaegh performs the eyelid lift for North Shore, MA, patients.

An eyelid lift, also called an eye lift or undereye bag surgery, removes the excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids for a rejuvenated and refreshed look. In cases where upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery must both be performed, the upper blepharoplasty is typically performed first.

Ideal Candidates

An eyelid lift is recommended for patients with heavy upper lids or puffy bags under their eyes. Patients who want to correct the constantly tired or angry appearance of their eyes are excellent candidates for this procedure.

Some patients may have trouble with their visual field because of an excessively sagging eyelid, and an eyelid lift can correct this issue. Patients with an impaired visual field often qualify to have the procedure covered by insurance after completing an appropriate screening.

Ideal candidates for this procedure are generally healthy and have no post-surgery healing issues. Candidates must not have serious eye problems and must have realistic goals.

Eyes are one of the first things that people notice, and are an extremely delicate area of the face, so it’s important that eyelid lift surgery is performed by an experienced plastic surgeon. Dr. Anoush Hadaegh is a board certified plastic surgeon with extensive eyelid lift experience. He always listens to your concerns, answers all questions, and discusses your options with you so that an appropriate and customized treatment plan can be developed.

I am so pleased with the results of my eyelid and brow surgery. I hadn’t even realized how limited my viewing field had become. The doctor and staff were friendly, concerned, and always prompt. I wish I had known about this possibility before this year.

Some patients choose to have other procedures in combination with their eyelid lift such as a face lift, neck lift, or brow lift. Safely combining procedures provides a more comprehensive makeover and takes full advantage of the recovery period.

Eyelid Lift FAQ

Is Dr. Hadaegh a board certified physician?

Yes. Dr. Hadaegh is a board certified plastic surgeon. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons as well as the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Where will my surgery take place?

Eyelid lift surgery is performed at either Beverly Hospital or North Shore Medical Center, Salem, under general anesthesia. The operation itself takes approximately 1 hour depending on your specific treatment plan.

What can I expect during surgery?

Once the administered anesthesia has taken effect, incisions will be made according to the surgical plan. For the upper eyelids, excess skin and muscle tissue will be removed, and the remaining tissues will be tightened. For the lower eyelids, excess skin will be addressed, and excess bulging fat will be repositioned or removed as needed.

What is recovery like after an eyelid lift?

Dr. Hadaegh will provide recovery instructions and prescriptions to help deal with the minor symptoms after surgery and to aid the healing process. You will be sore with some swelling after your procedure. Discomfort should begin subsiding after a few days, and swelling will gradually diminish over 2-4 weeks. Most patients return to work, driving, and normal basic daily activities within 4 days after surgery. Exercise and heavy lifting are restricted for about 4 weeks after your eyelid lift.

When can I see the results of blepharoplasty surgery?

You will notice a difference in your eyelids immediately after surgery. Significant results will become visible after two to four weeks. Full results can be seen after four to six weeks, when the eyelids have fully healed and swelling has reduced.

Patients can expect to see brighter, tighter, and more open eyes. In addition, they may look more alert, rested, vibrant, and youthful.
